Peter Hahn (1936 – 1989)
War, violence, torture, inhumanity and overpopulation are the themes that artist Peter Hahn addressed in his works. His focus is always on the individual who longs for self-realization and emancipation. Born in Bremen in 1936, Peter Hahn only passively experienced the Second World War as a child. Yet, as an adult he was preoccupied with the subject matter to such an extent that it strongly influenced his artistic work. He initially trained as a window dresser and then studied painting for two years at the state art school in Bremen. With a few brief interruptions, the artist remained in his hometown until his death in 1989 at the age of 53.
Even though Peter Hahn's artistic work is not very extensive and did not receive much attention during his lifetime, today they are all the more meaningful.
