Cabinet exhibition spring 2024

Manfred Bartling

The spring exhibition in 2024 featured a curated selection of works by the founder and artist Manfred Bartling. The exhibition focused on two connecting themes: dots and circles.

The four works on display were all created in the early 1990s (1991–1994). Manfred Bartling exhibited them in 2014 as part of an exhibition on the theme of the moon and sun. This exhibition was titled ‘Manfred Bartling – Stars, Earth, People’. Against this backdrop, these special works by Bartling can be interpreted as cosmic visual worlds. Recurring colours are red, blue, yellow and pink, complemented by black and white. The variety of formats in this group of works is striking. Tondi, rectangles, portrait and landscape formats, as well as elongated image carriers, testify to his experimental approach. Bartling was a loner and autodidact who did not strive to conform to the respective artistic trends and fashions of the art scene.
