HOUSE TOUR #16, August 2025
The House undergoing Renovation
Things are moving, and quite literally: our house is getting a new look. The courtyard, garage door and front building are being renovated and will shine in fresh splendor. Despite limited cultural funding, we continue to evolve, striving to remain a place of encounter, inspiration and contemporary art.
The courtyard, for years the stage for vernissages, courtyard festivals and warm summer evenings, will be getting its very first fresh coat of paint. The garage door will also be renewed, and the front building will receive a small but refined transformation.
In the photo you see our founder Manfred Bartling rolling up his sleeves. Back in the days when the building was still raw and unpolished, making it suitable for exhibitions meant brush in hand, painting walls, tearing up floors and laying new ones. Today the house is an established venue for contemporary art in Berlin’s Europacity and we want to keep it fit for the years ahead.
After reopening we plan to add more seating: six additional benches for our 21 exhibition rooms so visitors can linger longer, look more closely and breathe differently. We are also investing in technology such as computers, scanners and phones without which it is impossible to orchestrate a daily cultural program.
