EXILE

Art without borders

21.09.25 – 15.12.25

In recent years and decades, artists from many parts of the world have sought refuge in Germany in the face of censorship, war, and persecution. Many of them are in a particularly threatening situation because they publicly advocate for change in their countries of origin. Despite Berlin's role as a capital of exile, their works have so far received little attention in museums or galleries.

HAUS. KUNST. MITTE. is committed to highlighting the important role of exiled artists in Berlin's art scene. The current exhibition brings together 18 outstanding artists from nine countries. The diversity of their artistic positions and cultural backgrounds opens up spaces for understanding. New forms of dialogue give rise to a multi-layered network of ideas that transcends borders.

Exile is not only an individual fate, but can also be a source of creative power. The works on display invite viewers to reflect on the global phenomenon of exile and its profound influence on human experience and artistic expression. An invitation to rediscover art beyond borders – in the here and now.
